Research Centers
The School’s nine affiliated research centers enjoy international reputations, are closely linked to interdisciplinary advanced degrees, and serve as catalysts for collaboration with partners in the public and private sector.
- The Advanced Materials Laboratory (AML) is a Sandia National Laboratories facility located on the campus of the University of New Mexico that provides analyses for NSF-sponsored research projects and to for broader scientific and engineering community.
- The Center for Advanced Research Computing (CARC) enables excellence in UNM research in science, engineering, biomedicine, humanities, and the arts, through support for parallel supercomputing, large-scale informatics, and advanced visualization, and by providing leadership to enhance interdisciplinary research and education at the University.
- The Center for Biomedical Engineering (CBME) is an interdisciplinary research center that coordinates research and education in biomedical engineering.
- The Center for Emerging Energy Technologies (CEET) supports research on new materials for energy conversion and power generation in devices.
- The Center for High Technology Materials (CHTM) researches and educates in the fields of optoelectronics and microelectronics.
- The Center for Micro-Engineered Materials (CMEM) serves as a focal point for materials science research and education at UNM.
- The Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation Science and Technology (CN2ST) promotes advanced research and development of cutting-edge technology to detect nuclear materials, along with training of the generation of nuclear safeguards specialists.
- Institute for Space & Nuclear Power Studies (ISNPS) focuses on space power and propulsion technologies and related fields.
- Manufacturing Training and Technology Center (MTTC) supports training, research and development, start-up companies, and manufacturing prototyping.
