UNM sponsoring U.S. Particle Accelerator School from June 17-28
June 11, 2019 - By Kim Delker
Nearly 200 scientists and engineers from around the world will be visiting Albuquerque June 17-28 for the U.S. Particle Accelerator School.
The sessions will be held at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Albuquerque.
Topics to be covered include accelerator physics, including simulations and measurement techniques; proton and ion linear accelerators; microwave sources; lasers; control room accelerator physics; pulsed-power engineering; cryogenic engineering; and the effects of radiation on electronics and materials.
Instructors of the sessions are visiting from national laboratories and universities from around the country.
U.S. Particle Accelerator School is a national graduate-level program that provides training and workforce development in the science and technology of charged-particle accelerators and associated systems. The sessions are open to students worldwide, and to scientists in universities, laboratories, private companies, medical facilities, government and the military. Student backgrounds range from undergraduate and graduate students in universities to experienced scientists and engineers. Courses offered are typically not available in standard university curricula and are delivered in an intensive format, allowing enrolled students to achieve competency in topics in a short period of time.
