Dr. Jamesina Simpson Wins 2010 NSF CAREER Award
May 3, 2010
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has just announced that ECE Assistant Professor Jamesina Simpson is the recipient of a 2010 CAREER award. Dr. Simpson's project is titled "3-D Global Full Maxwell's Equations Modeling of the Effects of a Coronal Mass Ejection on the Earth." It aims to enhance, on a global scale, our understanding of the electrodynamics associated with space weather, particularly relating to the effects of coronal mass ejections on the operation of power grids.
The $462,507 award is scheduled to begin on June 1.
Dr. Simpson joins ECE's other CAREER Award winners, professors Mostofi, Sen, Ghani, Fierro and Hayat. The award was instituted in about 1995.
