Research is a fundamental and enabling element that is integrated into virtually every program in the UNM School of Engineering and is the basis for most MS and PhD degrees. Faculty members average $300,000 in annual research expenditures. Not only does research provide the basis for most of the nearly 200 M.S. and Ph.D. degrees that the School awards annually, but the School's extensive activity in research enables independent research projects for most undergraduates.
Current research at the UNM School of Engineering holds promise for innovative solutions to critical societal challenges. The wide spectrum of SOE research activities reflects the number and breadth of the disciplines represented within the School, as well as the healthy diversity of faculty interests. Within this wide spectrum, there are overarching areas in which there is a concentration of faculty interest and strength.
Research in these areas is highly interdisciplinary, involving significant collaborations with other UNM colleges, schools, and centers; other universities; the national laboratories; and industry. SOE partnerships from UNM and the outside community are producing exciting new discoveries. The following are just a couple of the SOE's extensive collaborations.
