SOE & Community

For over a century, the University of New Mexico School of Engineering (SOE) has been turning out highly qualified students in cutting-edge technologies relevant to the region, strengthening New Mexico's economy, and enhancing the state's resources with innovative research.

Now more than ever, the SOE is actively involved in education and research collaborations, economic development, and programs to encourage young people to pursue their education in science, technology, engineering, and math. Leaders in the SOE are involved in several community networking associations working to enhance the regional economy and are actively engaged in recruiting new high-tech companies to the region.

spacerOn February 11, 2009, the UNM FSAE team (Formula Society of Automotive Engineers) was invited to give a presentation for the Economic Forum of Albuquerque. The Economic Forum is a business leaders group founded in 1982 which is funded solely by membership dues and is dedicated to the betterment of our community. FSAE project manager Sloan Pearsall gave a presentation about the project. Since 1998, more than 125 UNM students have designed and built open-wheel race cars for the FSAE, an annual international collegiate engineering competition. Nationally, UNM’s program is one of two offering FSAE participation for academic credit.
